How automatic generator starting works

Our company Krel Central a.s. develops, manufactures and supplies certified devices (ATS panels) for the automated backup power supply for a wide range of entities ⁠–⁠ from small family houses to hospital and data complexes. The decisive advantage of petrol generators with an automatic start system is the electronically controlled choke servo drive, which ensures above-standard starting reliability compared to conventional systems.

Normal situation

Under normal conditions the distributor supplies electricity through an automatic switch to the consumption point ⁠–⁠ a company or household, the generator is stopped and disconnected, yet still in standby mode ready for an active start.

Emergency situation

In the event of a power outage, the electronic switch automatically starts the generator and connects the backed-up consumption point to its generator. This avoids a prolonged power outage and the consumption point can continue its operation until the power supply from the grid is restored.

The switch ensures that power from the generator does not flow back into the electricity grid and that, for example, an employee of the distribution company working on fixing a fault cannot be injured by electric shock. Once the public grid is restored, the backed-up circuit is automatically switched back and the generator is stopped.
